Kesha Eating Disorder Battle: ‘I Went To A Dark Place,’ Starving In Depths Of Anorexia Before Rehab

Kesha is revealing her eating disorder battle. The singer recalls her emotional and physical pain in struggling with the eating disorder anorexia only now, calling it a “dark place,” reported Us Weekly.

In 2014, Kesha made the choice to go to a rehab facility for treatment. But before she did, the singer admits she starved herself.

“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. It’s been quite a journey. I went to a dark place. There was a lot of not eating.”

To those who ask why an eating disorder such as anorexia begins, Kesha points to the criticism she received. She reacted with self-starvation. And when people praised her for getting so thin, Kesha began to view anorexia as a positive.

“I started to think being hungry to the point of feeling almost faint was a positive thing. The worse it got, the more positive feedback I was getting. Inside I was really unhappy, but outside, people were like, ‘Wow, you look great.'”

Before Kesha was treated for an eating disorder, she talked to a therapist about her starvation. Recognizing it was affecting her entire body, including her mind, she finally made the decision to go to a rehab facility for help.

“I was singing these songs like ‘We R Who We R’… But I was sad and [I wasn’t eating]. That’s not good for your body, metabolism, or brain. I talked to my therapist, and she said, ‘I think it’s time we take a moment to address this.’ I called my mom one night and I told her, ‘I need help,'” Kesha now recalls.

As the Inquisitr reported, other celebrities including Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, and Portia de Rossi, have unveiled their own eating disorders. Both Demi and Portia linked their battles to bullying about their weight and appearance.

Now out of rehab, where she learned to eat again after recovering from her eating disorder, Kesha is looking healthy and strong, reported the Daily Mail.

“I went to an eating-disorder specific rehab site where a nutritionist taught me that food is a positive thing for your body. I realized being healthy is the most important thing I can do for myself. Now, I’m trying to embrace the skin I’m in.”

And each day, Kesha says now, she makes the choice to feel good about her body and life.

“Every day I have to look in the mirror and make the choice to be kind to myself. This is who I am — I have to love that,” she declares.
