Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome Won’t Air on Syfy, Going Digital Instead

Considering that Battlestar Galactica was by and far Syfy’s most popular television series to date–and still is–one might think that it would be a no-brainer that Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, a prequel to the hit series, would be shown on the network as well. Apparently not.

Perhaps still reeling from the poor performance of the Caprica spin-off, Syfy confirmed on Wednesday that it has no plans to air Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome on its network. Instead, the Battlestar prequel will, oddly enough, be shown online in a series of webisodes.

There is a bit of good news for those of you who are left feeling disappointed that Blood and Chrome won’t be making it on the network: the reportedly 2-hour-long pilot movie will, as promised, air on Syfy at an undisclosed point, presumably this year.

Here’s what Mark Stern, president of original programming at Syfy, had to say about Blood and Chrome:

“Though the vision for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned. We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.”

If this is the first you’re hearing of the new series, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome follows a young William “Husker” Adama, a fresh Academy graduate who gets thrown right in the middle of the First Cylon War after being assigned to Battlestar Galactica.

Are you disappointed that Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome won’t be shown on Syfy, or are you looking forward to watching the upcoming series online?
