WWE News: Dean Ambrose Talks Becoming WWE Champion, Says He May Be The New Face Of WWE

Since the breakup of The Shield, it seems that Dean Ambrose has been the forgotten member of the trio, and while Ambrose is certainly more popular with the fans than Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are, he hasn’t gotten the main-event pushes that his former partners have. As a matter of fact, it seems that WWE has done the opposite of what they’ve done with Reigns and Rollins, as Ambrose’s win at Extreme Rules was his first win on WWE pay-per-view since The Shield broke up nearly a year ago.

During Vince McMahon’s interview on the Stone Cold Podcast back in December, he said that his superstars need to be more ambitious and reach for the “brass ring.” He also said that a true WWE main-eventer needs to be able to connect with the fans, and despite WWE’s horrible booking of Ambrose, he’s been able to connect, and stay connected, with the WWE fans.

Ambrose being able to maintain his popularity over the past year has gotten him into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at this Sunday’s WWE Payback pay-per-view, and there’s a chance — albeit a small one — that he will walk out of the event as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Ambrose was Michael Cole’s guest on WWE’s weekly interview segment on WWE,com, and Ambrose talked about possibly becoming the new WWE Champion, and, possibly becoming the new face of World Wrestling Entertainment.

“Anybody in this business that wants to be great, that wants to achieve anything, that is ever going to be anything in WWE envisions themselves, day and night, when you’re sleeping, when you’re training, competing for the WWE Championship. It’s not even that I went out of my [to be put in this position]… I just do my thing, and I’m really good.

Just the thought of reaching the top of that mountain… Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels… countless legends, and people that I studied and learned from, and aspired to be. To get up on that wall of champions, to be part of that… they’re looking every day for the new face of WWE, and after Sunday, this might be it.”

There have been rumblings of Ambrose possibly replacing Seth Rollins as The Authority’s WWE Champion, but those rumors are stemming from Kane’s comment to Rollins several weeks ago, where he told Rollins that The Authority made him champion, and they could have done the same with Dean Ambrose if they wanted to.

Ambrose will certainly have the most support from the WWE fans on Sunday, but, unfortunately, the most likely scenario is that Ambrose will be the one who’s pinned in the match, due to WWE wanting to protect both Randy Orton and Roman Reigns.
