‘Doctor Who’ Crossover Comic Announced By TITAN — Who’s The Doctor In Silhouette?

After Titan Comics obtained the Doctor Who comics license from IDW, a series of titles was launched for the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors separately. Now Titan has officially announced a five-part weekly Doctor Who comics event that will bring those three Doctors together along with their comic book companions for a crossover event sure to excite Whovians everywhere.

In the press release, Titan gives details on the time frame the Doctor Who comics will come out as well as the writer and illustrator of the series.

“5-part weekly event written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Neil Edwards, stars Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors and their comics companions!

“The weekly event, running through August and September 2015, in place of the ongoing series, features all three Doctors from Titan’s regular ongoings. This epic event is the thrilling next chapter in Titan Comics’ bombastic Doctor Who publishing saga.”

As the press release states, Paul Cornell will be writing the Doctor Who comic series while Neil Edwards will be illustrating. Cornell is also the writer of the Doctor Who episodes “Father’s Day” and “Human Nature/Family of Blood” and several classic Doctor Who novels.

Doctor Who First Issue

One important detail was purposely left out of the release. As you can see, the three Doctors previously mentioned grace the first cover of the series, but there’s a mysterious silhouette standing in the distance behind the Tenth Doctor. Whovians speculated whether the mysterious figure could be the Ninth Doctor or the War Doctor. With the coat the silhouette is wearing along with hair appearing to stick up, it appeared to be the War Doctor. Christopher Eccleston sported a shaved head when he played the Ninth Doctor and wouldn’t have hair sticking up.

Today, according to Doctor Who News, actor John Hurt’s War Doctor has been confirmed as the fourth Doctor. The news seems to have been confirmed by Titan Comics via Twitter when they retweeted the link to the Doctor Who News article.

Hurt’s War Doctor first appeared in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, “The Day of the Doctor,” and took part in the Time War against the Daleks. He chose not to take the formal name of the Doctor, and the anniversary special ended with the process of his regeneration as the Ninth Doctor starting.

The first issue is slated to release Wednesday August 12 and brings Year One of Doctors Ten, Eleven, and Twelve to a close. Year Two will begin after the conclusion of the special crossover event. Three days after the first issue comes out, Titan is celebrating with a global Doctor Who Comics Day on Saturday August 15.
