‘Jem And The Holograms’ Trailer: Fans Are Not Pleased, React On Twitter

The first trailer of the upcoming adaptation of the animated series, Jem and the Holograms, was recently released. Normally, new trailers are greeted with general excitement from fans. However, this video managed to get quite the negative reaction from the vast majority of fans that viewed it.

The film centers around a girl, named Jerrica Benton, who becomes the lead singer of the sensational band The Holograms. In the original series, Benton goes by the name Jem while on stage in order to conceal her true identity. She also uses holograms so that people won’t recognize her face. While the movie is keeping in line with the main aspects of the story, the video indicates that director John M. Chu also changed some things from the original.

One major change in the new movie is how Jem conceals her identity on stage. The video shows Jem masking her true identity with makeup and costumes instead of holograms. This fact was immediately pointed out by fans who noted the inconsistency with the original 80s cartoon.

Many fans expressed their views in the comment section of YouTube, where the video currently has a lot more downvotes than up.

“Um???? Where are the actual Holograms???? Like that’s a pretty big part of the movie???”

Fans have also taken to Twitter to express their disapproval of the new movie. User @DrNerdLove wrote: “So why, exactly, are they making a Jem and the Holograms movie if they’re not going to actually use Jem and the Holograms?”

User @TheClementW went further and posted: “They’ve officially wrecked Jem and the Holograms by making #JemTheMovie. I’ve never been so disgusted and disappointed by a trailer.”

Despite the negative reactions from fans, the voice of the original Jem, Samantha Newark, is excited about the upcoming movie.

“So excited and thrilled for everyone who poured their heart and soul into the making of the big screen feature film Jem and the Holograms coming October 23rd to a theatre near you,” Newark posted on Facebook.

“So grab your friends and dress in your most truly outrageous Jem attire and enjoy the move!!!”

According to IMDB, the movie stars Aubrey Peeples, known for her role in the TV series Nashville, as Jem. Molly Ringwald is set to play Jem’s aunt, while Juliette Lewis will play Jem’s executive, Erica Raymond. Other cast members include Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, and Ryan Guzman.

Jem and the Holograms is expected to premiere on the big screen on October 23, 2015.
