Demi, Rumer: Divorce Hardest On Rumer Willis, Says Her Mom
Demi Moore says that Rumer Willis was hit hardest by the divorce that ended family life as they knew it. According to Mail Online, Moore recently opened up about her split from actor Bruce Willis, and just how negatively it impacted her oldest daughter’s life. The candid interview was part of Rumer’s pre-dance package on Monday night’s episode of Dancing With The Stars.
“When their father and I decided to divorce it probably had the biggest impact on her. Media attention is tough when you are a kid, it is definitely weird to have that be such public knowledge,” Moore explained.
Demi and Rumer are past the divorce at this point, but that doesn’t mean that Rumer forgets those difficult times. Everything seemed harder living in the leftover spotlight of her super famous parents, and the DWTS finalist knows of the struggle all too well.
“A couple of times when things would happen to my family, whatever drama it was, I could not leave my house for a week. When I got older and people started commenting on how I looked that is when it really started to affect me,” Rumer explained.
“There really was not anything I could do to stop it, I mean, her self esteem was nothing, I could only just keep loving her and loving her until she could love herself. When she said she wanted to do Dancing With The Stars, to be honest, my whole insides were screaming ‘No.’ But one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed is watching her passion become greater than her fear,” an emotional Demi said.
Demi Moore has been in the ballroom week after week supporting her daughter — and she’s not the only one. Rumer’s sisters have also been cheering her on, as has her dad, Bruce. While he’s only made a couple of DWTS television appearances, he is extremely proud of his daughter. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Bruce admitted that watching Rumer compete on Dancing With The Starsmakes him cry.
“I’m very proud of her. The most exciting thing for me was how she looked when she got done dancing and stepped off stage. I love seeing her happy like that. She makes me cry,” the Die Hard actor said a couple of weeks ago.
According to Yahoo! News, the support of both of her parents has been instrumental in Rumer’s success on DWTS. Rumer and her dance-pro partner, Val Chmerkovski, will be dancing in the finals next week.
