Cute Alert: Man Finds Sea Lion Pup Snoring On A Bunk Bed On His Boat [Video]

A California man woke up on his boat in San Diego early Sunday morning to find a sea lion pup curled up and snoring on one of the bunk beds.

According to Michael Duffy, 48, he awoke at around 2:30 a.m. to the sound of sneezing and snoring. He got up, looked around, but found no one in the cabin of his 41-foot Kettenburg boat “Elixir” moored at the Yacht Club

According to UT San Diego, Duffy then thought maybe a friend had come aboard after a heavy night out and fallen asleep. He decided to just let things be and he went back to sleep.

However, at 6 a.m., he was awoken by yet another loud sneeze and even more snoring, so he decided to investigate the boat in a bit more detail.

What he discovered was amazing. There was a 35-pound sea lion pup curled up “exactly like a dog” and sleeping on another bunk bed on the boat, right on top of his board shorts. He tried to wake it, but the seal lion pup wasn’t having any of it.

“The sea lion’s reaction was very indifferent. It was like, let me go back to sleep.”

According to Duffy, the sea lion pup was a “tiny little guy” that he guessed was a male and that he was shocked to find it. He assumed the pup had been looking for his mother.

“Then he heard me coming, so he kind of looked up a little bit like when a dog is sleeping and you want to wake it up and it doesn’t want to wake up.”

“I just started shooing it out of the boat and it followed my directions like it was a dog.”

Before the sea lion pup left the boat, however, Duffy grabbed his cell phone and took some photos and video footage. In that video footage you can hear Duffy saying, “You gotta go, buddy, go … go, go, go.”

All’s well that ends well, and the little sea lion pup left the boat and headed back into the water. Hopefully, the little guy then found his mother.

The NY Post reports that after the whole adventure, Duffy said he nicknamed the sea lion pup “Gilligan” after the character of Gilligan’s Island and said that he was his “little buddy.”

“It was a very personal thing, and he was a very cute guy.”

“But I was a little emotional about it. For that 2½ minutes, he was my little buddy.”

Another little sea lion pup was rescued last month on the streets of San Francisco. TheInquisitr reported the pup, which was then nicknamed “Rubbish,” was found stranded on a sidewalk on Divisadero Street in the Marina District of San Francisco.
