Mega Millions Jackpot Climbs To $290 Million

Sixty eight people missed the Mega Millions jackpot last night by just one number and no one was able to hit all six. Which is good news if you’re expecting to win Friday’s drawing, which is now up to an estimated $290 million.

The OC Register reports that there have been 16 drawings since the last time someone hit all six numbers and won the Mega Millions jackpot. If someone wins this Friday they’ll win $290 million, which works out to about $205 million if they opt to take it in one lump sum. Of course, there’s only a 1 in 176 million chance that you’ll be the winner.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been in the news recently due to a lawsuit against Americo Lopes. Lopes, who was in charge of buying tickets for his office pool, reportedly used the office cash to purchase a ticket himself. Lopes won but a judge ruled that he had to split the winnings with his office. Lopes is expected to file an appeal.

The last Mega Millions winning ticket was purchased by an 81-year-old woman in Rhode Island. Louise White said that she won her $210 million jackpot thanks to a pint of rainbow sherbet.
