Kandi Burruss Explains Why She Didn’t Want To Console NeNe Leakes At ‘RHOA’ Reunion

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 7 reunion show ended with NeNe Leakes breaking down over her mother and walking off the stage. As a visibly emotional and shaken NeNe got up to leave, her co-stars Porsha Williams, Phaedra Parks, Cynthia Bailey, and even Kenya Moore rushed to her side. One person who didn’t get up until told to do so by Kenya was Kandi Burruss. Even though Kandi did eventually get up, she shook her head and muttered that she didn’t understand.

In an interview with OK! Magazine, posted on Monday, Kandi explained why she was so reluctant to go to NeNe’s side. Kandi told OK! that since she had spent much of the reunion arguing with NeNe, she didn’t think she was the best person to console NeNe. Early on in the reunion, Kandi blasted NeNe for her “superior, stank a** attitude” and turning on her former friends with private information.

“I had multiple thoughts going on in my head. First of all, we had been arguing the whole reunion, from the beginning of the time of us sitting there until the middle point. So I’m like, ‘She’s not going to want me over there consoling her. She’s been arguing with me most of the day.’ “

Kandi added that she was simply confused by what was happening. Kandi said that she “really didn’t know what triggered [NeNe]s breakdown.”

“One moment she was talking. Then Porsha [Williams] started talking about something, and me and Porsha were going back and forth a little bit about something else. But [NeNe] was kind of tearing up to the side. Then all of a sudden, she really started breaking down, so I didn’t know what exactly she was crying about.”

NeNe’s husband, Gregg Leakes, later told Andy Cohen, while NeNe was in her dressing room, the backstory on NeNe and her mom. He said that when NeNe was young, her mother, unable to take care of five children, sent her and a brother to Athens to live with an aunt and continued to take care of the other three. NeNe has since wondered all her life why she had to be one of the children to be sent away.

Kandi Burruss added that she knew right away that she was going to be criticized by NeNe Leakes’ fans for not rushing to her side.

“I knew that the day that we left there that everybody was going to be going in on me because, at the end of the day, she has her fans and I have mine. Anything that I say or do that people may think is against her they are just going to automatically make me look crazy.”

In the end, Kandi believes she stayed true to herself rather than expecting to do what others want.

“Because I didn’t get up out of my seat, I’m sure that everybody is going to be like, ‘Oh, she’s so horrible!’ But to me it’s like, okay, if I’ve been arguing with you all day, we already have never been close, we’re arguing right now and then you start crying, would I be the first person that you’d want to console you? No!”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, after Part 3 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 7 reunion aired, Kandi Burruss, seemingly in response to criticism over her treatment of NeNe Leakes, retweeted a fan’s tweet that stated that Kandi doesn’t kiss butt. Kandi also posted an Instagram message about being liked by everyone until she doesn’t do, give or say what they want.
