Britney Spears And Iggy Azalea Fall Out Of iTunes Top 40

The news for Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s new single, “Pretty Girls,” has gone from bad to downright disastrous. After just one week of its release, the song has fallen out of the top 40 on iTunes. The song is still shaded in dark pink on the charts, meaning it continues to lose sales at an alarming rate. Looks like Britney Spears’ comeback is in trouble.

Billboard recently tried to positively hype the song, noting that it will debut in the Top 40 on this week’s upcoming Hot 100 chart.

“The single, released on RCA Records, is heading for a top 40 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week. (Highlights of the chart will post on Billboard.com on Wednesday, May 13, with the full chart to post the following day.) The track premiered May 4, after leaking a day earlier, and is off to a solid first week … ‘Pretty Girls’ is on course to sell upward of 100,000 downloads in its first week (ending May 10), according to industry forecasters.”

However, as many commenters noted after the article, the top 40 position was earned before sales began to disintegrate into oblivion and when considering that both Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears usually debut much higher with new singles, a top 40 debut is nothing to be excited about. The song could very well plummet out of Billboard‘s Hot 100 next week if the sales crash continues.

It looks like “Pretty Girls” isn’t Britney Spears’ only problem, as she has been accused of faking an ankle injury in order to cancel some Las Vegas shows. TMZ had the scoop this past weekend on Britney’s supposed ankle injury.

“Britney Spears’ bum ankle kept her from performing Friday and Saturday night in Las Vegas, but it didn’t keep her from playing beach football on Sunday! Brit ditched the soft cast she had on her left ankle on Friday — and hit the sand in Malibu to toss around the ol’ pigskin with bf Charlie Ebersol. After rolling her ankle Wednesday night, Brit cancelled her weekend shows, per doctor’s orders. Just a guess, but beach football probably was NOT what the doc ordered.”

It’s highly unlikely that Britney Spears cancelled her shows due to poor ticket sales. As People reported last week, Ms. Spears extended her Las Vegas residency by three months. There is no way they would extend the series of shows if ticket sales were poor.

Perhaps the bad news for “Pretty Girls” has hit Britney really hard and she needed a break. You can bet that there will never be another duet between Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea anytime soon.
