The “FourFiveSeconds” singer made quite the entrance when she entered the red carpet in a golden yellow fur-trimmed cape and a gold headdress.

Rihanna spoke to Vanity Fair about her Met Gala dress. She was obviously very excited to wear it to the event that took place on Monday, May 4, in New York City.

“I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is insane! I can’t really walk in it without any help—but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much! It’s Chinese couture and it’s made by Guo Pei.”

She needed a group of men to carry her gown as she walked down the red carpet and up the stairs. The performer and actress explained how she came across the dress.

“It’s handmade by one Chinese woman and it took her two years to make. I found it online.I was researching Chinese couture on the Internet and I found it.”

Rihanna quickly became the best-dressed woman at fashion’s biggest night. This year’s theme at the Met Gala was “China: Through The Look Glass,” and she made the right choice by choosing to wear a Chinese designer’s creation. It also gave Pei some buzz since she’s typically the go-to designer for Chinese actresses like Li Bingbing and Zhang Ziyi, and her collections are typically unknown in the Western fashion industry.

Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief even loved RiRi’s gown. During an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the fashion legend said it was “a dress not to forget.”

“I really want to tell you about this dress. Because Rihanna is such a star. She surfed the internet looking for this, and this was designed by a famous, famous Chinese designer Guo Pei. It apparently took one Chinese person two years to make this dress.”

Pei calls Rihanna’s yellow gown the “Magnificent Gold” dress. The designer told the Cut that it took 50,000 hours to create the pop star’s head-turning look.

“The focus and the attention paid to this dress will make it remembered by the world—[what] I want is to make them remember…. It is my responsibility to let the world know China’s tradition and past, and to give the splendor of China a new expression. I hope that people do know China in this way.”

That didn’t stop fans from comparing Rihanna’s Gui Pei dress to various food items like omelets and pepperoni pizza. The singer was even compared to Sesame Street’s Big Bird! Not only did the singer become the best-dressed of the night, but she also became the much-shared internet meme of the night.

Rihanna didn’t let the online comments get to her. Instead, she took to her Instagram to share captivating photos and illustrations from her iconic yellow gown.
