President Obama Calls Moms On Mother’s Day

According to CNN, President Barack Obama called three moms to wish them a happy Mother’s Day. A White House official said the three mothers were surprised to hear the president’s voice on the other end of the line when he called them from the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

“Hi. This is Barack Obama. Your President.”

The unsuspecting mothers are from Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida. They had all written President Obama letters during the year about different issues.

“I decided since it was Mother’s Day, I should call letter writers and moms and say ‘thank you’ for being great moms.”

As he spoke to the mothers, President Obama made reference to his own mother, Ann Dunham, who died in 1995.

“I know how tough it is to raise kids and do right by them, and if it hadn’t been for my mother, I certainly wouldn’t be here. You are doing the most important work there is.”

The first woman the president called was Stephanie Tarr, a waitress from Coon Rapids, Minnesota. The mother of two boy wrote the president to thank the First Family for what they do each day for our country and normal families throughout America. In her letter, she mentioned minimum wage and affordable preschool as two issues most important to her.

The second woman called was Dawn Miller, a corrections officer from Tucson, Arizona. She wrote the president about her 22-year-old son because his job didn’t offer health insurance. He was still able to receive treatment through her insurance because of the Affordable Care Act after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

The last mother the president called was Patricia Church from Ormond Beach, Florida. Patricia had raised four children, and one of them is a Marine based at Camp Lejeune.

Patricia wrote the President on the night of his State on the Union address and expressed the challenge of raising children as a single mother. She concluded her letter by saying, “Mr. President, I know you are far too busy to talk to or meet me, and I understand that. But I hope and pray you will at least be able to read my words.”

President Obama not only read her words, but he also responded to her words. He thanked Dawn for her son’s service and told her he was so proud of everything she has done raising four kids, and he knows her boys are going to turn out good because of her.

The Huffington Post reported that the three lucky moms got the surprise of a lifetime when they received a telephone call from the leader of the United States. When Stephanie Tarr answered the telephone, she could not believe it was President Obama who was calling. To prove it was really the president, he said, “It’s me! Give me a test. Ask me about anything.”

Don’t you think that was a great thing for the President of the United States to call the three mothers on Mother’s Day? How would you feel if President Obama calls you?
