Gender Reveal Party: Couple Expecting Triplets Surprises Family With Exciting News [Video]
Ryan and Desiree Fortin held a gender reveal party for their family and closest friends, all of whom they told they were expecting twins. The Fortin’s tried to get pregnant for quite some time, and after their most recent round of IVF, they learned that they were expecting not one, not two, but three babies! They decided to keep this news secret (aside from Desiree telling her mom), only to reveal that they were having triplets during the party.
According to USA Today, the couple decided to post a video of their surprise on YouTube. It has since gone viral, receiving over 2.6 million views since it was posted on April 18.
“We never imagined that this video would go anywhere beyond our family and friends. We did it more as, you know, for the introduction of our babies into this world and to give something to our families that have followed our journey and have shared in our joy. We really feel like God wrote a story that was beyond our imagination. We’re just extremely blessed,” dad-to-be Ryan said.
The gender reveal was done using balloons. Ryan and Desiree opened the first box, and blue balloons came out, meaning one of their children is a boy. When they opened the second box, more blue balloons came out — two boys. Ryan then addressed the cheering crowd and told them that he and Desiree are actually expecting triplets. More screams met shocked faces, and a third box was opened. Pink balloons flew to the sky. Two boys and one girl.
According to Yahoo! Parenting, Ryan and Desiree’s story is extra special because of the struggle they both endured. Desiree was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome two years ago. Their struggle to get pregnant was heartbreaking, but one IVF treatment took — and now three babies are on the way.
“In vitro fertilization is $20K per round, so my sister-in-law came up with a concept called the ‘Hope Jar’ to collect donations to cover the costs. We raised $14K, and I also blogged about our journey to get the word out,” explained Desiree. The couple knew that the chance of conceiving twins was high, not just because of IVF, but because both Ryan and Desiree have twin siblings. Desiree has an identical twin, and Ryan has a fraternal twin. Never did they think they’d be expecting triplets, however!
She and Ryan have already chosen names for their children. Charlize Hope, Sawyer Reed, and Jax Ryan are due in the fall.
