Jan Morgan: Shooting Range Owner Who Banned Muslims Is Now ‘Being Monitored’ By Justice Dept.

Jan Morgan (pictured above), the Arkansas shooting range owner famous for making her business a “Muslim-free zone,” is now “being monitored” by the Justice Department, according to a recent report from the Washington Post.

The news site notes that “at least two advocacy groups” have urged the Justice Department to investigate Morgan and her Gun Cave shooting range located in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are the two known organizations behind the call, though it wasn’t clear if more had thrown in their requests as well.

In an October letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, CAIR noted that Jan Morgan was “systematically banning Muslims from a place of business,” which constituted “a violation of federal laws prohibiting racial and religious discrimination.”

The Washington Post, in an April article, said it received word from the Justice Department that they were actively “monitoring the matter,” but they did not confirm whether there were any plans to launch a formal investigation as to whether Morgan has committed any crimes.

“We welcome this positive development and hope it leads to a thorough investigation of clear violations of the civil rights of American Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim by the gun range owner,” said Jenifer Wicks, CAIR’s civil rights litigation director.

Morgan caused a stir last September when she said that she would refuse to “rent or sell a gun and hand ammunition to someone who aligns himself with a religion that commands him to kill me.”

Many critics accused Morgan of religious and racial discrimination based on the fact that she was making judgments about people based on how they looked and what they believed and was actively discriminating on those grounds.

In January, she was accused of turning away a father-son pair “because they were brown-skinned,” the men said.

If the “monitoring” that is now underway is designed to intimidate Morgan, it doesn’t appear to be working.

In statements reported by IJReview, she had this to say.

“I have nothing to hide. I have no secrets from the federal government…. I was prepared to fight this from day one…. I will close my business before I will make any compromises that could jeopardize the safety and security of the members who shoot here … [I] will continue to follow the advise [sic] of two agencies within the DOJ to protect and defend my own life, as well as the lives of innocent American citizens in my presence, from any and all threats of violence connected to, and or associated with any and all terrorist organizations… anything less would be irresponsible, reckless, and life threatening.”

Do you think Jan Morgan is violating the civil rights of Muslim people and willfully spreading Islamophobia, or does she have the right to make her shooting range a “Muslim-free zone”? Sound off in the comments section.
