Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart’ Has Marilyn Manson All Hot And Bothered, But Is The Pop Diva Down To Dance With The Devil?

After a string of both commercial and critical failures, Madonna’s Rebel Heart has put the queen of pop the closest to the top she’s been since dropping the ABBA-sampling “Hung Up” on 2005’s Confessions on a Dancefloor. As is usually the case for Madonna’s classic albums, the pop diva made Rebel Heart special not just by choosing trending producers like Diplo, but also by cranking up the sex appeal to levels unimaginable for an artist of her age in a youth-obsessed music industry.

That move seems to be working out in Madonna’s favor for at least some listeners. In a March interview with Vice media-owned culture magazine i-D, shock rocker Marilyn Manson brought up Rebel Heart when asked about what he felt fit the definition of “relevant” in today’s frantic, constantly evolving music industry. Marilyn took it one step further when he said not only did he think Madonna was still on her game musically, the 56-year-old was also at her peak physically as well.

“Musically, I’m kind of interested in this Madonna record. I’d say that that’s one record I’m looking forward to hearing when it comes to relevance. She looks hotter than ever. I’d also like to let it be known that I did get to sit next to her once at a screening of one of her movies. And I still have a crush on Madonna and I would definitely fornicate with her.”

While Manson is 10 years younger than Madonna, it would be a relatively small age gap compared to some of the pair’s former flames. Just six months before the release of Rebel Heart, Madonna broke off a relationship with her back-up dancer Timor Steffens, who was 26 at the time. Marilyn also turned heads a few years ago while he was dating actress Evan Rachel Wood, who was nearly 20 years his junior.

Still, Madonna doesn’t seem to be too open to the idea of getting intimate with Manson despite his praise for Rebel Heart and the woman behind it. On Friday, the pop artist finally tweeted her response to Marilyn’s compliment. You can draw your own conclusions about whether or not the controversy-chasing artists will be collaborating — physically or otherwise — anytime soon.

Even though Madonna and Marilyn Manson might appear to be on opposite side’s the music spectrum, both have a lot in common when it comes to the way that they have marketed themselves over the years: re-invention and pushing buttons. Additionally, 2015 might be the year of the comeback for both artists. Rebel Heart and Marilyn’s The Pale Emperor have both been called each musician’s biggest success in years.
