‘Amercian Horror Story: Hotel’ Will Head Back To L.A. When Filming Starts In July

With filming to begin on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel to begin in July, many new announcements have started to roll in. Recently, the Inquisitr explained the premise behind American Horror Story: Hotel as well as the most recent returning cast member announcements. Now it seems the show will be returning to L.A. when it begins filming, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Recent seasons of American Horror Story have moved about all over the place. Coven was set in New Orleans, while Freak Show was set in Florida but also filmed in Louisiana. However, with American Horror Story: Hotel being set in L.A., it is time for the show to return to where it all first started.

Confirmation for the American Horror Story filming location was confirmed, according to the Los Angeles Times, by FilmL.A. Inc., which is a nonprofit organization that handles all the filming permits for the area. There is also speculation that American Horror Story is returning to L.A. to take advantage to the recent changes to California’s film tax credit program, which now eliminates the “lottery” system that was overcrowded with applicants. As many as 246 applicants would go into the draw for a chance at only 18 tax credit spots. With so many applicants missing out on lucrative tax credits, film companies and networks were moving away from the state when selecting locations. This reason has been disputed by a source close to American Horror Story, stating creative reasons for Hotel’s move back to L.A. As yet, FX has declined to comment on this decision.

As well as filming in L.A., American Horror Story: Hotel will also be returning to its musical roots, according to Angela Bassett. In American Horror Story: Freak Show, many musical numbers were incorporated, including David Bowie’s “Life on Mars” and Lana Del Rey’s “Gods and Monsters.” These musical numbers were, generally, a hit with the fans, and it seems FX will be drawing on this in Hotel with both Bassett and Lady Gaga having musical characters. These characters will potentially be at loggerheads with each other which should, hopefully, lead to some wonderful musical sing-offs or song mash-ups.
