Jon Stewart Rips Fox News For Hypocrisy Over Clinton Foundation Money

Jon Stewart went after Fox News on Thursday night, implicitly accusing the cable news channel of hypocrisy for its scrutiny of Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation’s foreign donors. Stewart didn’t have a problem with the coverage itself, but rather wondered why domestic money didn’t receive the same treatment.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Hillary Clinton is under fire for not disclosing the identities of some of her family’s foundation’s donors to the White House during her time as Secretary of State. Critics say that the lack of transparency brings up the specter of potential influence peddling, even though there’s no hard evidence.

Fox News has done its part to grill the Clinton, according to the Huffington Post, a fact not lost on Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show, who played a montage of Fox News pundits and guests attacking the 2016 presidential candidate.

Stewart admitted the conflict of interest looked bad, saying “there’s nothing that looks worse than this, it looks bad. Like an ugly mole, even if it’s not cancer it’s unsightly.”

Still, something seemed disingenuous about the news coverage to Stewart.

When covering Democratic efforts to regulate the flow of money into the political system Fox News seemed far less concerned about corrupting influence.

As anchor Megyn Kelly explained, “It’s basically an attempt to limit the first amendment.”

Whereas for Clinton’s corruption allegations, she took an accusatory tone asking, “To whom does she owe favors, because of the Clinton Foundation?”

Stewart explained Fox News’ disjointed coverage with a simple rule.

“I guess the rule here is that money is free speech, unless that money speaks with a funny accent.”

Stewart’s criticism wasn’t only intended for Fox News, but for the media and political world in general. Reporters have said that Hillary Clinton’s campaign hopes to raise $2.5 billion. As The Daily Show host put it, “that’s a giant mole.” Yet, few seem to be asking what favors she’ll be expected to give in return for that money.

Of course, for those situations, Stewart remembers there’s still someone out to regulate the favor peddling.

“It’s at times like this, as we begin what’s projected to be a $10 billion campaign season, with billionaires buying up candidates like Bitcoins, that I’m thankful that we have the Federal Elections Commission, or FEC.”

Unfortunately for the host, the head of the FEC, Ann M. Ravel, recently resigned, according to the New York Times. She claims that she’d given up hope of regulating money abuse in the upcoming presidential election.
