Taylor Swift Comes ‘Clean’ About Harry Styles: Friends Helped Her Get Over Her Ex

Taylor Swift recently described the moment that she knew that she was over Harry Styles, and it sounds like Elizabeth Olsen really wishes that she’d been around to help Taylor get over the One Direction singer.

During an interview with Elle, Taylor Swift revealed that the song “Clean” is about a romance revelation she had during a London visit. The song describes the struggle to move on from a failed relationship, and its lyrics compare losing a lover to drowning and holding on to a wine-stained dress that can no longer be worn.

Taylor didn’t mention Harry Styles by name during her Elle interview, but it’s pretty obvious who she’s talking about.

“‘Clean’ I wrote as I was walking out of Liberty in London,” Taylor revealed. “Someone I used to date—it hit me that I’d been in the same city as him for two weeks and I hadn’t thought about it. When it did hit me, it was like, Oh, I hope he’s doing well. And nothing else.”

However, the weeks before her reflective moment were pretty rough. Taylor Swift had a difficult time re-adjusting to a life without sweet morning text messages from Harry Styles, and she found it hard to ignore the aching in her heart.

“Nothing distracts you from it. Then time passes, and the more you live your life and create new habits, you get used to not having a text message every morning saying, ‘Hello, beautiful. Good morning.’ You get used to not calling someone at night to tell them how your day was.”

Taylor said that she slowly started to recover and move on, and she described the moment that she came up with the title for her breakup song.

“All of a sudden one day you’re in London and you realize you’ve been in the same place as your ex for two weeks and you’re fine. And you hope he’s fine. The first thought that came to my mind was, I’m finally clean.”

Taylor Swift credits her crew of famous friends for getting her through her breakup. According to Swift, they helped her replace the old relationship habits that she missed with new ones like “planning fun dinner parties and going out on adventures.”

Taylor Swift certainly has no shortage of friends to call whenever she needs a shoulder to cry on. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Taylor recently introduced rumored boyfriend Calvin Harris to a few members of her posse. Harris tried to make a good impression by cooking dinner for Lorde, Ellie Goulding, the Haim sisters, Crisis actress Halston Sage, and Empire star Serayah McNeil.

According to Hollywood Life, a few more of Taylor’s friends made a cameo during the first concert of her 1989 World Tour. The May 5 concert in Japan kicked off with a video featuring Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Karlie Kloss gushing about their sweet sisterhood — and poking fun at Taylor Swift for being a crazy cat lady.

Taylor’s list of famous friends is even more extensive than her list of celebrity ex-boyfriends, but not everyone can join her very unique clique. Elizabeth Olsen was lucky enough to land a role in one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, Avengers: Age of Ultron, but she failed miserably at her attempt to audition for Swift’s squad of celebrity superheroes. According to Olsen, she probably “talked at” Taylor a bit too long when she met the singer at a birthday party.

It’s a shame Elizabeth Olsen failed to impress Swift — she would have been perfect for the singer’s “Bad Blood” music video.

Obviously, the women above are also members of Swift’s posse.

Perhaps Olsen didn’t score Taylor Swift’s number because the singer is simply exhausted from trying to juggle the famous friends that she has already has. However, there could be hope for Olsen — if Taylor and Calvin Harris break up, she might decide that she needs one more distraction to help take her mind off their split.
