ISIS Threat Level Raised, Military Increases Alert Level
All U.S. military bases have raised their threat level to “Bravo.” The reason for the increase is due to an increase in activity by ISIS.
Force Protection Condition Bravo is the third level of military alertness. The Force Protection Condition scale consists of five levels. A document released by the U.S Air Force describes what all the levels mean. Bravo means that an increased and predictable threat of terrorism exists.
Sunday, in Garland, Texas, two men attacked an event where cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed were being shown. One of the shooters made the claim that he was part of ISIS. ISIS would later take credit for the attack. It has not been confirmed that the attack in Texas was led by ISIS. Either way, the shooting in Texas is likely why the threat level has been raised.
Are members of ISIS already in the United States? Has ISIS used the Mexican border to get into the United States? Some conservative groups believe that ISIS is already in Mexico and will use the weak border to gain entry. The Department of Homeland Security says that statement is false.
What is a fact is that ISIS has followers and supporters in the United States.
ISIS has made it clear that they want to carry out a terrorist attack inside of the United States. By becoming experts at the use of social media, ISIS can communicate with people all over the world that support their views. It is not very hard to believe that ISIS supporters within the United States could be manipulated into carrying out attacks here.
Now that the threat level has been raised, attacks on high-value targets will be harder to pull off. A high-value target would be considered any building that has direct ties to the United States Government. Targets would include military bases, government buildings, and national parks.
At threat condition Bravo, more security measures will be put in place at these high-value targets. These security measures would not stop a terror attack. They would just force the threat to be placed on other targets that have less security. These targets are known as soft targets. Soft targets would include, shopping malls, schools, and military recruitment offices.
The threat raised by ISIS is real. The people of the United States live in a time where ISIS wants to kill everyone that lives there. This does not mean that they need to live in constant fear. It just means that they need to take every threat seriously and be aware of their surroundings.
