Synopsis
Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, and produced by Swirl Films, For The Love of Ruth centers around a woman named Ruth who desires to be a part of a loving family and attaches herself to her mother-in-law, Naomi. Naomi has fallen upon hard times and tries to move on with her own life, but Ruth wants to be a part of Naomi’s life no matter what. Her insistence and her pursuit of a life with Naomi makes onlookers wonder about the nature of their relationship. Some believe that Ruth is a young but beautiful gold digger who is seeking to leech off of those around her. However, Ruth insists that her motives are pure and she’ll stop at nothing to find the love and the life that she deserves.

In the biblical story Naomi is an old woman who seeks to go back to her own land after the death of her husband, but Ruth, Naomi’s daughter-in-law, doesn’t want Naomi to go. Over the years Naomi and Ruth have developed a deep and trusting friendship that included Naomi teaching Ruth about God. Ruth continued to be faithful and loyal to Ruth, and when Naomi insisted that Ruth stay behind, she told Naomi that she was willing to go wherever she went, and that her people would also become her people. It was a story of undying love and loyalty between two women — even during the most difficult times. In the Bible, Ruth stated the following.

“For whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.”

According to The Christian Post, this latest movie is the second in a series of several movies based on bible events that will premiere on TV One. In April, Inquisitr reported that the first movie to air was To Hell And Back based on the book of Job. It starred Ernie Hudson and Vanessa Bell Calloway. The intensely dramatic scenes seek to inform the audience on what it is takes to show deep unwavering love — despite troubled circumstances.

TV One’s dramatic adaptation and modern character representation is sure to capture the hearts of the audience and bring this old bible story to life. TV One is one of the leading television networks that provides programming related to African-American stories.

For The Love Of Ruth premieres tonight at 8/7c. Below, you’ll find the tease and trailer.

“Based on the Biblical book of Ruth, For The Love of Ruth follows the journey of Ruth Sommerling, a young widow who chooses to take care of her mother-in-law, Naomi. Ruth soon realizes that her love for Naomi, the only family she’s ever known, leads to her knight in shining armor.”
