Liberals Are ‘Intimidated’ By Jihadis And Are Ready To ‘Give The Country Away,’ Says Tucker Carlson

Liberals have often been for the outright freedom of expression — this Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson admits (via Mediaite). However, the “new breed” of liberals no longer stand by this belief and seem to have been intimidated into giving the country away.

That was the conclusion Carlson drew on a recent episode of America’s Newsroom.

The realization came to Carlson, he said, in how so-called “elite” media agencies are responding to Pamela Geller (pictured above) and her “Draw Muhammad” contest that ended with the deaths of two jihadis.

While Carlson acknowledged that Geller was the type of person who “sets out to infuriate people,” he emphasized that who Geller is shouldn’t matter when it comes to free speech.

“You can’t use violence to stop people from saying things you don’t agree with,” Carlson said.

Liberals have responded all week by admonishing Geller for having the nerve to offend Muslims by exercising her right to free speech, the Fox News pundit attests, calling out the New York Times in particular.

“The New York Times editorialized on behalf of Andres Serrano to do the crucifix in urine,” Carlson said. “They editorialized on behalf of The Book of Mormon, even though it offended religious groups; they editorialized against Pamela Geller. What’s the difference? Well, the Mormons and the evangelicals weren’t threatening to murder those artists.”

Attorney Qasim Rashid, in a piece for Time magazine, was another one of the liberal commentators who came out against Pamela Geller this week, saying that what she did through the “Draw Muhammed” competition “isn’t free speech.” From Rashid’s column.

“We, as society, must do better. Rather than fall for the fallacy that what Geller advocates is free speech, recognize that as human beings our strength rests not in sticking to the bare minimum the law permits, but in elevating our civility to the highest levels possible.

“We cannot defeat terrorist groups like ISIS by following ideology that serves only to demonize the other. Rather, we counter such extremism with better, more compassionate, and more pluralistic concepts that are universal to all people — respect, integrity, and justice.”

Tucker Carlson insists that whether columnists like Rashid like it or not, America does protect Geller’s right to have “Draw Muhammed” competitions.

“You have a right to say what you think, period,” Carlson said. “Nobody has a right to kill you for saying that; that’s the core value of America. Once you give that up, everything falls apart.”

Carlson added that liberals “have given that up” and that “someone on the left needs to stand up and say, ‘You have the right to do this.'”
