‘Boba Fett’ Movie Casts Max Von Sydow As Bounty Hunter, Says ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Rumors

Will the Boba Fett movie cast actor Max Von Sydow as the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy? If these reports are true, it would mean the Boba Fett movie occurs somewhere near the time frame of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But the details of the Star Wars spinoff rumors also allow for Von Sydow to be much younger in an origins story.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, it’s been revealed why Disney abandoned George Lucas’ Star Wars 7 story and, no, it was not due to Jar Jar Binks.

The rumors concerning the role of actor Max Von Sydow are fairly confusing, although a story seems to take shape once you consider the information leaked out so far. According to Star Wars Underworld, the 85-year-old actor was originally described as being cast as some sort of cyborg, not a Sith Lord or a Jedi.

“He’s a beaten man. He’s old enough to have lived through the Clone Wars, seen the Intergalactic Civil War unfold and then the aftermath of the fall of Emperor Palptaine. He’s no longer a man, he’s a cyborg. His eye is obscured by a ocular viewing device, most likely from a past injury which mean the could no longer use the eye with any ease. One leg is entirely cybernetic now, almost like a Super Battledroid but with metallic claws where his toes would be.”

Von Sydow’s character apparently gets the story rolling in Star Wars: The Force Awakens by finding a lightsaber. But who exactly he is supposed to be is currently being debated by the rumors, one of which claims he’s a former Imperial officer.

“The rumor holds that Max Von Sydow’s character was the Commanding officer of the Star Destroyer that crash landed on Jakku, the one we see in the beginning of the 2nd trailer, and he is currently the leader of the colony. His anger at the Empire for leaving him and his people stranded has left him with a bitter taste in his mouth, resulting in him having zero loyalty to the First Order.”

The latest rumor claims that we will see Max Von Sydow cast in both Star Wars 7 and the Boba Fett movie as the bounty hunter, but this secret identity would not be revealed until Star Wars Episode 9. Having the character be a cyborg makes sense since George Lucas made it official that Boba Fett survived the sarlacc pit, which should have left him with many injuries.

Boba Fett Sarlacc Pit

Because of this history, the actual identity of Van Sydow is “hidden by cybernetic modifications.” This is highly convenient since it would allow the older actor’s character to be just as lethal as back in his bounty hunter days with the usage of CGI effects. No one wants to see Fett behind a walker.

But do not expect him to be too active. Since Boba Fett was cloned 36 years before Return Of The Jedi, and The Force Awakens takes places 30 years later, this would make Fett about 76 years old. It is said that Von Sydow’s character also suffers from sort of mental disorder, perhaps dementia, and has trouble recalling memories. But at the sight of the lightsaber he becomes lucid, which would make horrible sense considering his personal history with the Jedi (daddy issues, anyone?).

This portrayal also makes sense if Max Von Sydow is also in the Boba Fett movie cast. Assuming the film is more of an origins story, the Mandalorian armor would cover a younger actor’s face while Von Sydow provides the voice. Even if the Boba Fett movie occurs during the 30-year gap after Return Of The Jedi, the character’s appearance should allow for the older actor to reprise the role.

So, just how serious should we take this Star Wars rumor? The original story was run by MoviePilot, but they mysteriously took the article down with no explanation after claiming they had “confirmed” Max Von Sydow’s Boba Fett movie role. Perhaps the Disney lawyers descended like stormtroopers?
