‘Walking Dead’ Exec Producer Scott Gimple Backs Troubled Cast Members

Despite the controversies surrounding former and current Walking Dead cast members Chad Coleman and Seth Gilliam, Executive Producer Scott Gimple firmly declared he’s got their back.

In a new video courtesy of TMZ, Gimple is asked about the recent plight surrounding cast members Chad Coleman and Seth Gilliam, who were separately involved in two embarrassing off-camera incidents. The Walking Dead head honcho however, echoed his support.

“I love both those guys. I’m very close to them. They’re part of the family.”

Chad Coleman, who played the recently deceased Tyreese on The Walking Dead was involved in a highly publicized rant on a New York City subway that was caught on film. According to TMZ, Coleman said “he heard a guy and a girl on the train talking, trying to figure out where they knew him. He says the guy told the girl, ‘No, we don’t know that n*****,’ and that set him off.”

Whether or not the allegation made by Coleman is true, he was forced to apologize for his behavior afterward, claiming that he had a lot of “built up frustration” due to the Baltimore riots and the death of Freddie Gray before his now-infamous rant. He took to Twitter to back his hopes for mankind.

Gimple meanwhile, also took to Twitter to support Coleman and reiterated that when asked by TMZ.

“The man asked ‘where’s the humanity,'” Scott repeated as he walked from the airport to his car. “It’s a good question. I had a tweet about it. Everybody on the show loves him, care about him a great deal. He’s family.”

As odd as Coleman’s rant was, in the end, he broke no laws. That’s more than can be said for fellow Walking Dead cast member Seth Gilliam, who plays Father Gabriel on AMC’s smash zombie hit. According to Variety, Gilliam was arrested for “driving 107 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to police. He was arrested after police discovered a marijuana cigarette in his car. At Fayette County Jail, Gilliam was charged with DUI, drug possession, and speeding.”

Still, Gimple continued to support his Walking Dead cast member — for now. When asked about the incident, Scott simply replied that Seth was “working that out,” while reiterating that he was still “family.”
