Rebecca Bowers: Becky Sears Subject Of Tonight’s ‘Dateline NBC’ Episode About Kay Parsons Grovetown Murder

The Rebecca Bowers Sears–Kay Parsons messy love triangle that left a wife and mother dead is coming to television again. This time it is airing on the latest episode of Dateline NBC. The shocking Georgia murder has already been the subject of Investigation Discovery’s Deadly Affairs and Oxygen’s Snapped. Rebecca Bowers, also known as Becky Sears, is still in custody in a Georgia correctional facility, along with her son, Christopher Bowers.

The murder of Kay Parsons, aka Laverne “Kay” Parsons, rocked Hot Springs Drive, Grovetown, Georgia in 2009, when neighbors returned home to a street full of police detectives. The normally quiet street located on Hot Springs Drive was abuzz with gossip and speculation as neighbors wondered what happened to their beloved neighbor Kay Parsons.

Neighbors learned that Kay Parsons had been killed with a claw-hammer inside her suburban home. The victim had “been beaten very severely. She’d been struck numerous times,” stated Ashley Wright, the district attorney for Columbia County, according to the Columbia County News Times.

When the crime first happened, no one could figure out who would have killed the woman most people considered to be a good person. At first, police believed that the murder happened during a home invasion, until another woman, named Rebecca Sears, reported being shot by unknown assailant.

It didn’t take long for police to put the clues together. Their investigation revealed that the victim’s husband had been having an affair with neighbor Becky Sears. More than that, Becky became so obsessed with her neighbor’s husband that she devised a plan to kill Kay Parsons so that she could have him all for herself.

According to court records, Rebecca Bowers Sears became so obsessed with getting rid of her competition that she enticed her own son, Christopher Bowers, to beat Kay Parsons to death, and then shoot his own mother the next day, in order to make her look like a victim — instead of a killer. Law enforcement investigators quickly saw through the lies, leading them to arrest Rebecca “Becky” Sears and her son, Christopher Bowers, three days after the murder. In 2012, they both pleaded guilty to beating Kay Parsons to death in her home that day and were sentenced to life in prison without parole.

District Attorney Ashley Wright was pleased with the outcome of the case.

“It was a good resolution to the case to get it done on both defendants that quickly.() I hate to say ‘that quickly’ three years later.”

As for Kay Parsons’ friends and family, they lost a treasured friend and a great person. Many believe that the two killers should have gotten the death penalty. But they are reasonably satisfied with the verdict. As for Kay Parsons’ cheating husband, he did attend the trial but kept a low profile.
