Kevin Owens Vs. Brock Lesnar: Why Not A Team Up Instead?

Kevin Owens has voiced his desire to have matches with Brock Lesnar as he moves up the ranks of the WWE, but after looking closely at the two stars, I’m not sure that would be the best use of him, at least not at first.

Currently, Owens is one of the best heels on the mic and in the ring, and that goes for whether you’re talking about the NXT brand or the main WWE roster.

His cocky bad guy doesn’t even break character for Twitter as evidenced in his recent trolling of Sami Zayn’s RAW debut against John Cena.

Putting someone like Owens in against Lesnar any time soon would be an inevitable squash match in which a long-dormant Brock makes a surprise return to shut up an overconfident Owens for calling him out.

That’s at least the way I could see WWE (mis)handling such a pairing.

Instead of going the obvious route, WWE should consider putting Owens and Brock together as a two-man stable. (Not tag team. These guys are awesome enough to warrant “stable.”)

Here’s how you could set it up.

Sami Zayn keeps trying for the U.S. Title and eventually wins it from Cena, who congratulates the young man and heads to the back.

That’s when Owens attacks, in much the same way he did when Zayn won the NXT Championship (except without the guise of a fake friendship).

Whether I’d do it immediately or over time, the ultimate endgame would be this: John Cena stands up for Sami Zayn and gets trashed by a returning Brock Lesnar just when he gets the upper hand on Owens.

This could set up a tag team match between the two, but it could also bring in a long-running storyline where the Beast Incarnate and KO trash everything and everybody. You could have Brock regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins; Owens win the U.S. belt from Zayn while holding the NXT belt hostage; both take the World Tag Team Titles “because they can”; and maybe even bring in one more bad guy for total dominance on the Intercontinental belt.

(Rusev would be an obvious choice and could even be the difference maker in a Cena/Zayn vs. Lesnar/Owens feud. Of course, that would be without Lana. Who needs her when you’ve got Paul Heyman?)

This would set up some intriguing possibilities down the road like, for example, a Survivor Series match between the KO/Brock stable and a newly reformed Shield, more Zayn-Owens battles, more Brock-Reigns, more Rusev-Cena, and perhaps even an eventual face turn for Lesnar setting up a one-on-one match against Owens.

What do you think, readers? Does it make more sense to have Kevin Owens and Brock Lesnar working with each other instead of against? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
