Gallagher Health Status: Comedian Out of Coma Following Heart Attack

Gallagher, the comedian best known for smashing watermelons as a part of his acts, is awake and telling jokes following a heart attack last week.

According to the NY Daily, Gallagher, whose full name is Anthony Leo Gallagher, suffered a heart attack last week right before his Texas show and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.

The NY Daily writes that the medically induced coma was considered a precautionary step.

Despite the recent scare, Gallagher’s promotional manager, Christine Scherrer, says the comedian is breathing on his own, moving around and talking to family members.

Confirming that her client has also begun telling jokes again, Scherrer added:

“We’re not sure how long the doctors will want him to stay yet… so far so good, can’t wait to have him back!”

Gallagher’s latest heart attack in Texas marks his second a year, as he suffered a minor heart attack during a performance in Minnesota last March.

In that incident, the comedian was admitted to a Minnesota hospital and was discharged three days later.

Over a career that has spanned several decades Gallagher has received many accolades for his comic acts.

During the 1980s Gallagher was one of the most well-known comedians; he had many TV specials and was named one of the 100 Comedians of all-time greats list by Comedy Central.
