‘Assassin’s Creed: Victory’ Announcement Teased With Fancy New Toys

The existence of Assassin’s Creed Victory for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC is already known thanks to a series of leaks. Ubisoft is ready to make it official, though. On Thursday, the publisher began teasing an announcement for next week and gave a peek at some of the fancy new weapons that players will employ.

Ubisoft announced through Twitter and Facebook that Assassin’s Creed Victory will make its debut on Tuesday, May 12, at 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT. The official Assassin’s Creed website has also been updated to invite fans to RSVP for the event.

The accompanying image is of particular interest as it shows some of the weapons that the new protagonist will be able to use in the action-adventure title. In addition to the traditional hidden knife on the left hand, the image shows brass knuckles being worn on the right hand. These brass knuckles also show up as the header image on the Assassin’s Creed website.

There’s a somewhat comical miniature cannon on the left wrist, while the hand with the brass knuckles also holds a fancy cane. It’s probably safe and obvious to say that this cane also doubles as a sword.

The leak of Assassin’s Creed Victory revealed a Victorian London, England, setting for the game. Kotaku was given information and assets of the game that included “target gameplay footage.” The traditional game climbing and parkour mechanics were in place, but supplemented with a new grappling hook mechanic that allowed the player-controlled character additional movement options such as reaching places that wouldn’t normally be available by climbing, and to swing through the environment.

The busy streets of London also allow for fights on the top of carriages. Of course, a Victorian era game would not be the same without a top hat, so the footage showed the player able to swap out their assassin’s hood for a top hat. All that is missing is a monocle.

There’s no guarantee that all of this will be in the final game, however, since it was just target footage meant for internal use. We’ll have to wait and see what Ubisoft’s actual announcement for Assassin’s Creed Victory brings.

One thing is certain, though. Ubisoft cannot afford a repeat of the troubled launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity. The publisher took a significant financial and reputation hit due to its buggy launch. This led to the planned Season Pass DLC being given away for free, along with multiple apologies until it was eventually fixed.
