Google Announces New Round of Layoffs

Google is laying off about 200 employees, the company has announced. The cutbacks will come from Google’s sales and marketing divisions.

In a blog posted Thursday afternoon, Senior VP of Global Sales and Business Development Omid Kordestani says overlapping positions largely led to the decision.

“When companies grow that quickly it’s almost impossible to get everything right — and we certainly didn’t,” he says.

The affected employees will be encouraged to look for other opportunities within Google, Kordestani says.

Google previously laid off about 100 workers this past January.
