Tom Brokaw Opens Up About Multiple Myeloma Cancer And New Book ‘A Lucky Life Interrupted’ Tonight In Dateline NBC Interview


Tom Brokaw will discuss his cancer diagnosis tonight on a new episode of Dateline NBC. People Magazine is reporting that the well-respected author, newscaster, and journalist will share with the world how he has coped since being diagnosed with cancer last year. Viewers will also get to see how his family members have dealt with the devastating news. Brokaw’s newest book, A Lucky Life, Interrupted, will also be discussed in tonight’s episode.

Late last year, the Inquisitrreported that the former NBC Nightly News anchor’s multiple myeloma cancer was in remission. Doctors had originally told Tom Brokaw that he had a malignancy in February of 2014. He made the announcement to his longtime dedicated fans on his Facebook page.

“A year ago my future was more uncertain than I cared to acknowledge but now I face the New Year with very encouraging news. The cancer is in remission and I will shortly go on a drug maintenance regimen to keep it there.”

Brokaw’s upbeat and encouraging message to his fans also stated that with the help of his family, medical doctors, and his loving friends, he was very optimistic about his future and still considers himself the “luckiest guy he knows.”

Tom Brokaw was born on February 6, 1940, in Webster, South Dakota. The aspiring journalist attended college at the University of Iowa but then received his BA at the University of South Dakota, where he majored in political science. Tom Brokaw landed his first job in television in the 1960s, before later moving into nightly broadcasts on NBC. His more than 40-year span in television has earned him numerous awards and the respect of people of all classes across the nation.

Tonight’s Dateline NBC interview will mark the first time that Tom Brokaw and his family members have opened up about his cancer diagnosis, which he refers to as his “most difficult season” in life. His family will talk about the first time they noticed that he might have been sick and how the frightening news has taken a great toll on their lives.
