J.K. Rowling Was Hoping The Royal Baby Would Be Named Nymphadora After ‘Harry Potter’ Character

J.K. Rowling was delighted to hear the news of the new royal baby, but she was a bit disappointed that the child wasn’t given a name from her famous Harry Potter novels. According to Time Magazine, the famed author joked about the new princess’ name on social media and revealed that she was really hoping that Prince William and Kate Middleton chose “Nymphadora” as the child’s moniker — as a middle name even!

J.K. Rowling may or may not have been pleased if the royal couple chose the name for their little girl, even though the character in the book wasn’t a fan of her own name. If you’ve read the Harry Potter series, you probably know that Nymphadora asked Remus Lupin to call her “Tonks,” which is how she is more widely known (in the films as well).

Unfortunately, Prince William and Kate Middleton didn’t go with a Harry Potter name (no, Hermione wasn’t in the running either). As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the royal couple chose the name Charlotte Elizabeth Diana for their daughter. The name itself has a lot of meaning, though there isn’t an inkling of a nod to Rowling’s super popular books.

The name Charlotte, which means “petite,” was given to the child as the female version of Charles, likely in honor of William’s father, Prince Charles. The youngster’s middle names are after William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and after William’s late mother, Princess Diana, respectively.

J.K. Rowling shouldn’t take the name choice personally, of course. Prince William and Kate Middleton are both fans of the Harry Potter series. According to Us Weekly, Will and Kate visited the Harry Potter exhibit in London back in 2013 (the Duchess of Cambridge was pregnant with Prince George at the time). They both seemed to have a wonderful time and were all smiles as they checked out the sights.

“The famous Brits were shown the set of the Gryffindor Common Room in Hogwarts, used by Harry Potter and his friends in the blockbuster films. The parents-to-be were given a few simple ‘spell techniques’ by tour instructor Scott Heron before being asked to face a group of children called ‘Dumbledore’s Army.'”

William admitted that he hadn’t read the books, but that he had seen the movies. His wife did read the books and said that they were “great.”
