Find Out Why Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!’ And ‘…Baby One More Time’ Singles Are Making News Again

Britney Spears may be coming out with new music these days, but the singer is still being remembered for her classic hits. Digital Spy reported that May 2 was the 15th anniversary of her hit song, “Oops!…I Did It Again.”

Did you know that Spears’ second studio album was released in Japan before it was released in North America? The news site included some fascinating facts about the “Oops!” single. In fact, the song is still a chart holder to this day. It holds the title for the most sales that a female artist has sold in a single week. (Sorry, Taylor Swift.) Spears’ single sold 1,319,00 copies in its first week on May 2000. Swift almost broke that record last October with the release of her 1989 album, but came in 32,000 copies short.

It was Britney’s idea to wear the iconic red catsuit in the music video, as producer Nigel Dick recalls the pop star telling him.

“‘I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can’t be any rockets.'”

It was also the singer’s idea to feature herself dancing on Mars, as she said in an episode of Making the Video.

“The song is basically about a girl and all these guys fall in love with her and she just can’t have it. When I meet a guy that I’m seriously attracted to, I get butterflies in my stomach, total brain fart, I don’t know what to say.”

“That’s what I like about this song. It’s really honest and fun to perform…. This whole idea was my idea. I was like, ‘I want to be on Mars, dancing on Mars.'”

It was also the first music video where Spears injured herself while filming. She was injured during the scene where she was lying on the floor. An overhead camera fell on her and she had to receive four stitches.

Meanwhile, Spears’ debut single, “…Baby One More Time” is getting a remix. Singer-songwriter Brayton Bowman covered the song and gave it some much needed “coolness,” as noted by Noise Porn. He also added a different beat to the song, to make it sound fresh and updated. Check out Bowman’s cover of “Baby One More Time” below.

Megan Fox recently channeled Britney Spears’ controversial schoolgirl look from her iconic “…Baby One More Time” music video, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. The actress donned a short blonde wig with a white button down blouse tied at the waist and a mini plaid skirt. She also wore a black cardigan and black over-the-knee socks with matching black pumps. Fox was spotted filming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 at New York City’s Grand Central Station last week.
