Kansas Governor: ‘Tip The Schools’ Waitress Writes On Governor Sam Brownback’s Check

Kansas governor Sam Brownback might have wanted to tip a waitress after a recent meal, but she requested that he give his money to the school system. According to People Magazine, Chloe Hough crossed off the “tip” section on Brownback’s check, and wrote “tip the schools” to the side. She took a photo of the bill, and posted it on Facebook where it quickly went viral.

“I think education is the foundation for a better country and more progressive society,” Hough said. She has gotten a ton of praise for her efforts, hoping to bring some additional awareness to the recent change in school funding.

“In March, Gov. Brownback changed the way Kansas public schools are funded, switching to block grants for two years instead of relying on complicated formulas to determine each district’s share. The grant program, which also freezes funding for two years, was rushed through the Kansas legislature and upset many Kansas educators who felt the plan would hurt schools, although the governor said the plan should not create cuts.”

The Kansas governor tip comment came from the heart. Hough, who has a sister with special needs in the public school system, says that she feels as though the new legislature robs the state of equal opportunity. Teachers have been let go due to budget cuts, and the overall funding system has angered school leaders, parents of school-aged children, and many more Kansas residents.

According to the New York Daily News, the restaurant where Hough works has posted a message on Facebook letting the public know that they did not agree with her decision to write on Brownback’s bill receipt.

“Regarding the credit card receipt that a former employee gave to the Governor last night, Boss Hawg’s was unaware of the incident until after the fact and we do not endorse her actions.”

It’s unknown if her job is now in jeopardy, but Hough doesn’t regret speaking up for a minute.

“I just knew I had to say something or I would regret it,” she said.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback made news last month for another change, but this one more widely supported. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a bill has been passed that will not allow welfare recipients to use their government assistance to pay for things like theme park tickets and movie tickets, and will prohibit them from using the money at places like casinos, liquor stores, and tattoo parlors.

“The governor believes strongly that employment is the most effective path out of poverty and he is supportive of work requirements that help people become self-sufficient.”

For many, Brownback is now 1-2. Are you a fan of his politics?
