Digital media box provider Roku has sent the third-generation Roku 2 HD box to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for final approval.

The new box uses the same design as previous versions of the company’s product line but highlights the return of full-size composite outputs instead of the former 3.5mm jack alongside an HDMI port.

A new remote control will also be shipped with the device although that product has not yet been shown.

Internal shots of the Roku HD box also shows that it will ship with 2GB of NAND flash memory alongside a Broadcom BCM7208 processor. With 2GB of internal storage in place Roku is ditching the microSD card slot featured on past devices.

The Roku 2 HD has not officially been announced although the Roku website does have it listed with the message “out of stock.”

In the meantime an expected release date and pricing are nowhere to be seen.

Roku’s most expensive product at the moment is the Roku 2 [XS] which offers HD quality video with a shipping price of $99. If Roku follows pricing standards set by other tech manufacturers in the same field there’s a chance the top level price for the Roku 2 HD will hit home at $99 while the Roku 2 [XS] will witness a price drop.

Roku has already lowered the price of the entry level Roku [LT] to just $49.99 with free shipping.

Will you be heading out to purchase the Roku 2 HD when it arrives in stores and online?
