‘Game of Thrones’ Hints Towards Another Fan Favorite Theory, This Time About Jon Snow

Game of Thrones show runners have repeatedly said that there will be parts of the show that are not the same as the books. However, there are some parts of the books that they have stuck to. One of those seems to be the storyline for Jon Snow.

While lovers of A Song of Ice and Fire have no idea who Jon Snow’s parents really are, there are a number of theories. One of the most popular is that rather than being Ned Stark’s son, he is Ned Stark’s nephew. Many fans believe he is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaeryn, and Ned got him out and claimed him as his own to protect him; a promise he made to his sister.

Game of Thrones looks like it could be heading in that direction. There have been hints here and there, but Sunday night’s episode seemed to suggest it even more. While Sansa spoke to Littlefinger about her Aunt Lyanna being kidnapped and raped by Rhaegar, Littlefinger seemed to suggest the contrary. He suggested that they loved each other and Lyanna wanted to be with Rhaegar.

The Nerdist suggest that there were other hints in the episode. Ser Barristan tells Daenerys a tale of how her brother loved to go out and sing, pretending to be a beggar. That does not seem like the type of man who would then kidnap and rape a woman, and Ser Barristan is not a man to lie about something like that.

Zap2It suggests that there are other theories of Jon Snow’s parentage, and shared that it is possible that the truth will be revealed in Winds of Winter. This is the book that George R.R. Martin is still working on. However, it looks like Game of Thrones will get ahead of Martin, so the show runners have had to make decisions on how to continue it without giving too many book spoilers away. That could mean the show shares one theory, while Martin opts for a different outcome in the end.

Whether Jon is the son of a Targaeryn or not, it does not change his vow to the Night’s Watch. He has already proven that he puts his vow first, and is now the Lord Commander at The Wall. It could still set up the ending for Daenerys to take the Iron Throne when Game of Thrones is all over.
