Seattle Mariners Rumors: Big Roster Changes Coming For Mariners

Seattle Mariners rumors reveal that the team is about to make some big roster changes. The Mariners already made the move to option pitchers Tyler Olson and Yoervis Medina to Triple-A Tacoma. As revealed late Sunday (May 3) by MLB.com, the two relievers just weren’t performing well enough for Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon. McClendon addressed the moves, stating that this was a plan to allow Medina and Olson more time to work on their pitching.

In the case of both of them, location and execution is important. Medina was elevating quite a bit and we need to get some things straightened out. And it’s hard to get them straightened out here in the big leagues. That’s just almost impossible. Both of those kids need to go down and get a couple things straightened out and they’ll be fine.

This immediately opens up two roster slots on the 25-man roster, giving rise to several rumors about what the Seattle Mariners might do next. The team has a huge series coming up against the Los Angeles Angels, with the first game set to take place Monday night (May 4). It means the Mariners will have to make moves to address the pitcher demotions, but the team might also have to address an injury to center fielder Austin Jackson. Jackson suffered a right ankle sprain on Sunday that the team will be re-evaluating. If he has to go to the disabled list, the Mariners will be forced to make three roster moves.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune took to Twitter to reveal one of the Seattle Mariners rumors he had heard late Sunday.

Chris Taylor is a young infielder that is doing very well at Triple-A Tacoma. His promotion would have made more sense if an infielder like Willie Bloomquist were getting designated for assignment, but maybe there is an unseen plan that will get revealed on Monday. As for Joe Beimel, he is a relief pitcher that was with the team in 2014, but who decided to sign a free agent deal with another club. After he got released, the Mariners offered him a minor league deal that he accepted.

The quick demotions of Tyler Olson and Yoervis Medina might seem a bit surprising, but the Seattle Mariners have fallen to 10-15 on the season. It was very clear that something needed to be done with the roster to make a run at the division leading Houston Astros. To replace Olson and Medina, there are options other than Chris Taylor and Joe Beimel as well. Pitchers Lucas Luetge and Mark Lowe could get the call, as could outfielders Franklin Gutierrez or James Jones if there is a need to replace Austin Jackson.

If it does turn out that Taylor is getting a promotion, it will force the Mariners to do something with current shortstop Brad Miller. One unfounded rumor was that the Mariners might try out Miller in the outfield. As previously reported on the Inquisitr, teams like the Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals were considered favorites to get to the 2015 World Series. After a slow start, though, it is clear the Mariners need to try something to shake things up.
