Watch: Severe Storm Pushes Train Off A New Orleans Bridge [Video]

An incredible video caught the moment when a severe storm blew some train cars right off of a bridge in New Orleans. No one was harmed in the incident, but it showed just how dangerous mother nature can be.

According to ABC News, almost a dozen shipping containers were pushed off Huey Long Bridge, west of New Orleans, by a powerful storm on Monday morning about 10:30 a.m. A reporter for local WGNO, Jabari Thomas, was on scene to capture the moment on camera.

The Public Belt general manager in New Orleans, Jeff Davis, released a statement on the incident, according to RT.

“Due to the severe weather this morning, four Union Pacific Railroad railcars derailed and dropped off the east bank approach to the Huey P. Long Bridge. The rail cars were empty and did not contain any hazardous materials. No leaks and no injuries are reported at this time.”

The Washington Post reports the storm produced softball-sized hail, torrential rain, and wind gusts reaching 111 miles per hour.

In addition to the train incident, a roof was reportedly blown off of someone’s house in Kenner, west of the city.

Nearly 168,000 residents were also left without power for some time during the storm.

Councilman Chris Roberts said that the cleanup from the storm would take several days, and a heavy crane would have to be brought in to lift up the container cars.

In the end though, it was just fortunate no one in New Orleans was hurt from the falling train cars.
