Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, which is based off the popular manga and anime series, and is coming soon for the Nintendo 3DS, has a new trailer that shows off the characters featured in the game. Humanity in Chains publisher ATLUS U.S.A. has also announced the game is to be released stateside on May 12, 2015, at a suggested retail price of $39.99. As an added bonus to those who purchase the game, a special Attack on Titan Nintendo 3DS theme download is being given away for free.

As seen in the trailer, players can jump into the shoes of their favorite Attack on Titan anime character to play through jarring scenes reminiscent of the show. Playable characters include Armin Arlelt, Eren Jaegar, Levi, Mikasa Ackermann and Sasha Braus. In addition to being able to play as a character from the anime, Humanity in Chains also gives players the option to create their own character and customize their weaponry. A closer look at those features are showcased in the Features trailer below.

In addition to taking down Titans in iconic locales like the Wall Maria, or the Trost District, the Features trailer reveals some other interesting gameplay opportunities, like the ability to walk on walls or target enemies while riding horseback. There is even a quick scene that shows two Titans fighting each other, which appears to reveal Titans as a playable character, as well. The game also includes missions to complete, plus an online multiplayer mode.

Players in Europe will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains. According to a recent press release, ATLUS explains a copyright issue has caused the game to be delayed in that region.

“Due to a copyright claim in Europe, the EU version will henceforth be known as Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains, and is currently delayed. We don’t have an exact launch date yet, but we’re shooting for as soon as possible. Stay tuned for more info!”

On the upside, players of the European version will also be getting the free Attack on Titan 3DS theme with their purchase of Humanity in Chains.

Much like the source material, Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains is not for the faint of heart. The ESRB rates the game M for Mature, citing violence, partial nudity, blood and gore as potentially sensitive material not recommended for players under the age of 17. Humanity in Chains is the first Attack on Titan game to reach North American shores and will be available exclusively as a download on the Nintendo eShop.
