Abbey Russell’s Body Pulled From River

The search for the missing Stillwater, Minnesota woman, Abbey Russell, has been called off by authorities after a body has been found. WEAU News reports that the body hadn’t been identified at the time that the search was called off, but that information has since changed. According to CBS Minnesota, the body has since been positively identified as the missing woman, bringing an end to the search for her. It’s an end that nobody wanted, or expected, but the search for her was a brief one, lasting just about a week.

A cause of death is not yet known in the once-missing woman’s case. However, authorities have confirmed that they do not suspect foul play. They are awaiting toxicology results, which could be a lengthy waiting process, as they wait to find out if this woman died by drugs, alcohol, poisoning or some other tragic cause. Police also haven’t confirmed or denied any probability that the once-missing woman may have fallen into the river and died by a tragic accidental drowning. At this point, there are simply more questions than answers.

Abbey Russell was last seen around midnight last Saturday. She had left her residence on foot, leaving behind all of her belongings including her cellphone and any identification. She also left behind her dog — something that her loved ones believed to be out of her normal scope of behavior. She was also reportedly barefoot at the time of her disappearance.

The discovery of her body was found a few miles north of Stillwater in the St. Croix River. How her body ended up in the river is currently unknown, and even though foul play isn’t suspected, authorities say that the investigation is still open, as they try to figure out how she died and how she ended up in the St. Croix River.

Abbey Russell’s loved ones haven’t spoken out publicly since the heartbreaking discovery of her body. However, they have played a large role in the search for her, taking full advantage of social media and GoFundMe in their efforts. Now, they must pick up the pieces and keep it together while the investigation into her death continues. Hopefully, the next news they receive is news that they can cope with after the shock of this tragic loss.
