Alan Dershowitz: Harvard Law Professor Slams Marilyn Mosby For Charges Brought Against Officers

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz definitely isn’t pleased with Baltimore’s State Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s perspective where the Freddie Gray murder case is concerned. For those who missed it, Mosby has been a target for scrutiny since her highly publicized press conference on Friday, May 1. During the televised conference, charges against six Baltimore police officers for the mysterious death of the 25-year-old were announced.

Although many are sighing in relief over the charges, there are some who aren’t pleased with Mosby’s decision. As a matter of fact Dershowitz, a famed Harvard attorney has condemned the charges, arguing that Mosby’s decision wasn’t based solely on substantial evidence presented.

According to the Brietbart, Dershowitz recently slammed Mosby and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake during an interview on Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg Show. Apparently, Dershowitz, a liberal democrat, is accusing Mosby and Rawlings-Blake of succumbing to “crowd-control justice” instead of basing decisions off factual evidence. He feels the possibility of a fair trial is no longer feasible. Needless to say, he has reservations about the entire case and his level of criticism is unprecedented.

Here’s an excerpt of his lengthy rant.

“This is a very sad day for justice in the United States, in Baltimore and in Maryland. Today had nothing to do with justice; today was crowd-control. Everything was motivated by a threat of riots and a desire to prevent riots. The Mayor–outrageously–said we’re gonna get justice for the victims and the families and the people of Baltimore; never mentioning the defendants…”

“The Mayor and the state attorney have made it virtually impossible for these defendants to get a fair trial. They have been presumed guilty…some in the crowd said the only reason we got these indictments is because we rioted. They may very well be right…There is an incompatibility between crowd-control and justice…you cannot allow police officers or any other defendants to become scapegoats for crowds who are demanding a continuation of rioting… Even the ACLU issued a statement today praising the indictment, and not mentioning the presumption of innocence, or proof beyond a reasonable doubt, or due process…”

However, that’s not all he had to say. The notable law professor also took time to breakdown the charges against the officers. He also offered his opinion of the upcoming trial and how he feels the

“There is no plausible, hypothetical, conceivable case for murder under the facts as we now know them. You might say conceivably, there is a case for manslaughter. My prediction—they have overplayed their hand. It is unlikely they’ll get any convictions in this case as a result of this and if they do there is a good possibility they will get reversed on appeal.”

Although Dershowitz is making headlines for his claims against Mosby and Mayor Rawlings-Blake, he definitely isn’t the first to question the staggering list of charges. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke insists the six officers are “human sacrifices” for the purpose of political statement, New York Daily News.
