Prince William And Kate Middleton Put Modern Twist On Royal Parenting
From the time Prince William and Kate Middleton began their courtship so many years ago, they have continuously presented themselves as a down-to-earth and identifiable pair to the millions of onlookers who watch their every move.
That same demeanor has transferred over to Will and Kate’s parenting journey. Since they welcomed their first child George, the two have taken on a more modern image when compared to previous newbie royal parents.
James Phelby of AFP notes the modern approach Kate and Will take when it comes to their role as Mom and Dad.
“The couple have cultivated an image as down-to-earth parents ever since William drove his new family home from hospital after the birth of Prince George in 2013, his hands-on approach being in stark contrast to previous generations of royal fathers. The 32-year-old has proudly boasted of changing George’s first nappy, talked about how he balanced sleepless nights with his job as a search and rescue helicopter pilot and admitted ‘a lot of things affect me differently’ since becoming a father.”
The birth of the couple’s first child also allowed Kate to be held in a more positive light by those who saw her merely as a brainless beauty. Phelby explains how back in 2013, novelist Hilary Mantel described the duchess as “a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore”.
As Reuteur’s shared, “It is a peculiar kind of stardom. Her image is ubiquitous on the front pages, fans cheer her at every stage-managed appearance, and the clothes she wears sell out in a flash, yet Kate has revealed very little of substance about herself.”
It’s true that Kate still gets praised for her classic fashion sense, yet she has entirely demonstrated that she is an intelligent, capable mom in addition to being fashion-forward.
Despite the couple’s extravagant wedding back in 2011 at Westminster Abbey, the pair has vowed to keep their family life relatively private and out of the spotlight. William and family blame being in the spotlight as the reason for the car crash that took his mother’s life in 1997, so he and Kate have “vowed” to avoid putting their own family through constant media circus scrutiny
As noted, William works as a pilot for the air ambulance, and he and Kate reside in a rural setting at Anmer Hall. The combination keeps the pair out of London unless events and obligations require them to make a visit. Since the newest little royal has arrived, Will and Kate will be sure to protect their little princess and prince from being exposed to the masses as best they can.
Will and Kate have yet to share the name of their new little princess with the media. However, many are speculating Diana and Charlotte at the top of the list.
