A Special Prom For Teen Who Is Unable To Speak After Recovering From Brain Surgery

Victor Murray, 18, was on top of the world. He was a member of the Cape Fear High School wrestling team and had a promising future. Then, a year-and-a-half ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Even though his whole world was turned upside down, he didn’t complain. He had to undergo brain surgery, which left him unable to speak. He has spent his senior year trying to regain the use of his body and speech, according to FayObserver. But he was determined to go to his senior prom and asked a good friend he’s known for years, Rachel Brittan, a former miss North Carolina contestant. His prom-posal was written on a yellow card that cleverly said the following, according to ABC Channel 11.

“Will you please help me get out of the warden’s jail for one night and allow me to escort you to the prom.”

Her answer was a resounding yes. Laura Hottel, Victor’s adoptive mom, said that he has a great upbeat spirit and that he doesn’t give up. She said the following, according to ABC Channel 11.

“He’s never had a negative attitude. He has never been angry to the point that he wouldn’t try or he wouldn’t care.”

And his date Rachel also sung Victor’s praises and wanted to give him a special night he deserves. She said the following, according to ABC Channel 11.

“Just the fact that he would want to make me a part of that night, it just means the world to me and it’s truly a blessing. So we will definitely have some surprises through the night and some dance moves to keep us excited.”

Many people are on Victor’s side, cheering him on so that his prom night will be a night to remember. Yard signs throughout his neighborhood said the following: “praying and believing #teamvictor.” Hottel noted that although Victor had sacrificed a lot this last year, he will have a normal senior prom, stating the following according to FayObserver.

“He doesn’t get to walk the halls or change classes. He doesn’t get to go to the games. But he’s going to the prom.”

And Rachel noted the following.

“For one night, he gets to be a senior again.”

Promposals are all the rage now. In another touching case, a star high school basketball player, Trey Moses, of Eastern High School, Kentucky, decided to take a friend to the prom. The friend is freshman Ellie Meredith, a student with Down syndrome. Even though Trey has a girlfriend, Ellie so wanted to go to the prom with Trey, who was part of a program that pairs students with disabilities with volunteer buddies, Trey and his girlfriend agreed that he should take Ellie and give her a special night. He asked her with a large poster sign and a bouquet of roses, according to an article in the Inquisitr. Of course, Ellie answered that she would attend.
