Richard Gere: Divorce Could Cost Actor $100 Million


Richard Gere’s divorce could cost the actor an estimated $100 million. The contested divorce, which was filed by his estranged wife Carey Lowell, has been tied up in court for nearly one year. Although the former couple reached an agreement concerning custody of their 15-year-old son, they continue to argue over money.

Gere, 65, and Lowell, 54, have been married for 12 years. Although the couple have not publicly discussed the details of their separation, sources suggest they simply do not get along.

As reported by New York Post’s Page Six, “the Buddhist actor craves privacy, and Lowell likes socializing with other bigwigs.” Unfortunately, the couple had trouble finding common ground.

Although Richard Gere’s divorce is no secret, he and his estranged wife agreed to keep the details out of the public eye. Fox News reports the names “Lowell” and “Gere” were replaced with “Parties on Anonymous” and “Anonymous” on court paperwork to protect the famous couple’s identity.

To further protect all interested parties, Justice Matthew Cooper has conducted a majority of the proceedings behind closed doors in his chambers.

A native of Philadelphia, Richard Gere attended the University of Massachusetts on a gymnastics scholarship. Although he majored in philosophy, Gere was a talented musician with a keen interest in the performing arts.

As reported by Biography, Gere made his big screen debut in the 1977 film Looking for Mr. Goodbar. However, he got his big break with the starring role in the 1980 film American Gigolo.

Richard Gere’s most successful, and memorable, films include An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, and Primal Fear. Although he has seen great success as an actor, Gere also works with anti-war and civil rights organizations.

A native of New York, Carey Lowell signed her first modelling contract immediately following her high school graduation. Although she landed gigs with Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, Lowell eventually left modelling to become an actress.

Lowell got her big break with a role as a “James Bond girl” in the 1989 film License to Kill. However, her most memorable role was that of Assistant District Attorney Jamie Ross in Law & Order.

Throughout their careers, Gere and Lowell amassed a fortune, which is estimated to be well over $100 million. Unfortunately, the money has become a strong point of contention.

The specific details of Richard Gere’s divorce are largely unknown. However, sources said the estranged couple reached an agreement about the custody of their son. However, they are far from an agreement over the money.
