Rupert Grint Joins Cast Of Beach Boys Biopic, ‘The Drummer’

Rupert Grint has just signed on to the all-star cast of “Drummer,” a biopic about Dennis Wilson, the drummer for the Beach Boys. Grint will play Stan Shapiro, one of Wilson’s closest friends, in the new film.

It was also announced today that Chloë Grace Moretz would be joining the cast. Moretz, who played Hit Girl in the film “Kick Ass,” will play Wilson’s daughter Jennifer. Contact Music reports that the real life Jennifer Wilson will serve as producer of the movie alongside her brother Carl.

Aaron Eckhart will be playing Wilson. Eckhart has apparently jumped into the role and is currently taking drum lessons to better portray the famous drummer.

Director Randy told Variety:

”We’d been trying to figure out who the right person would be to fill this role. It’s quite a demanding role so it had to be a great actor who could sing. There’s a discovery about Dennis with this film. Everybody knows Brian [Wilson, frontman], but nobody really knows Dennis’ music.”

“The Drummer” will chronicle the last 6-years of Wilson’s life. Wilson, the only Beach Boy who actually surfed, drowned in 1983 shortly after his 39th birthday. Dennis, who was a heavy drinking, drowned while trying to recover items that he had lost off of his yacht three year’s prior.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that filming will start on June 15 in California and Savannah, Georgia.

Are you a fan of the Beach Boys? Contact Music reports that music from Dennis Wilson’s solo album, “Pacific Ocean Blue” will be featured in the movie. Here’s a song from Wilson’s solo effort.
