Baltimore Police Mugshot Photos Of 3 Black, 3 White Officers Hit The Web As GoFundMe Fundraising Page Shut Down

The mugshots of the six cops who have been charged in the death of Freddie Gray have hit the web, and are garnering plenty of comments about the races of the officers involved. On May 1, the fact that Kevin Moore, the man who filmed Gray’s arrest, was himself detained by police and then let go, as reported by the Inquisitr, was another event that caused more controversy.

Now, with the release of the mugshot photos of the six Baltimore police officers, as reported by the New York Times, even more discussion has erupted online, with folks creating more than 1,500 comments within three hours at the bottom of articles like those that show the faces of the six police officers now charged with Freddie’s death. As much hubbub has also been going on online regarding Marilyn J. Mosby, the youngest prosecutor of a major city, the woman who obtained the medical examiner report calling Gray’s demise a homicide, and filing charges shortly afterward.

The video footage of Freddie’s arrest previously showed only three Caucasian officers involved in dragging Gray to the police van and shackling him in leg restraints. Now that all six of the officers have been suspended on Friday and named and photographically identified online, plenty of online chatter has individuals giving their opinions on the racial situation.

First and foremost, Mosby called Freddie’s arrest illegal. Although Gray had a closed pocket knife on him at the time of his arrest, this wasn’t illegal, said Marilyn during her much-watched press conference. Despite claims that emerged from another arrested passenger claiming that Gray tried to hurt himself, later reports show that Freddie requested help, said he couldn’t breathe, and tried to get an inhaler and medical attention, but didn’t get medical attention for at least 45 minutes, at which point was too late to save his life.

“If Freddie Gray is not to die in vain we must seize this opportunity to reform police departments throughout this country.”

The general public getting a visual look at the six Baltimore police officers, as reported by the Washington Post, reveals that the three white and three African American officers are all across the board in terms of job history, with three of them being new to the Baltimore police force as of three years ago. The cop facing the most serious charges — the oft-heard about but finally seen driver of the van that carried Gray — is black.

Stunned reactions from those who know Officer William Porter show that they are shocked that Porter has had anything to do with Gray’s death, reports the Baltimore Sun, especially since William is only 25 and African American, just like Freddie. Porter helped the driver of the van check on Gray’s condition, and has no record, with neighbors calling him a good person.

The six officers have posted bail, reports WIBW, which names the cops charged with Freddie’s death as follows: Caesar R. Goodson Jr., Garrett E. Miller, and Edward M. Nero, and bottom row from left, William G. Porter, Brian W. Rice and Alicia D. White.

Meanwhile, fundraising efforts for the union representing the Baltimore police have proven unsuccessful on GoFundMe, with the campaign being shut down soon after it was launched.
