‘Jump Street’-‘Men In Black’ Crossover Confirmed, Details In The Works

Amidst the rumors that blossomed during the Sony hacking scandal, details of a 21 Jumps Street and Men in Black crossover were revealed and had some fans scratching their head questioning whether or not it was real, and others excited that the idea was even thought up.

The rumors seemed to die down until just recently, when Sony revealed that the project was still happening, assuming contractual negotiations can be reached. The news comes on the heel that a female duo may also take on the Jump Street moniker, similar to the all female Ghostbusters cast.

Details regarding the actual storyline have not been revealed, so it is unsure whether the new female Jump Street duo will meet the men in black, or if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will reprise their roles, according to Unilad. However, it has been confirmed that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will return to their character’s roles in some form or another. It would make sense that Tatum and Hill would leave Jump Street to investigate aliens, leaving a spot open for the female duo to step into their place.

Uproxx shared that an interview in the Wrap confirmed the crossover, which would play off of the success of other recent crossovers, such as The Avengers.

“’21 Jump Street’ took aim at reboots, while ’22 Jump Street’ targeted sequels, so it makes sense that the next ‘Jump Street’ movie will send-up the current trend of Shared Movie Universes by having Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum enter the ‘Men in Black’ universe and investigate aliens.”

Currently, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are working on their contract extensions for the Jump Street franchise. Fans are hoping that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, or even Josh Brolin, will reprise their roles, but would not be against opening up the series to other Men in Black characters to take the lead roles.

The biggest complaint from fans so far is related to the rating that the movie may receive. Men in Black is much tamer in content than 21 Jump Street. Fans are hoping it will be given an R-rating to allow Tatum and Hill to continue their normal shenanigans and to allow the Men in Black universe to become edgier. Many fans fear that neither Smith or Jones will come back, citing Jones’ lack of presence in Men in Black III and Smith’s refusal to appear in Independence Day 2.
