‘Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition’ Demo For 3DS: A Free And Must Download

IGN released a report today that Super Mario is coming to Nintendo 3DS for free on the Nintendo eShop. And this is not just an ordinary Super Mario game, but a cross-over of the Super Mario Bros. world and Puzzle & Dragons.

Puzzle & Dragons mobile games have recently been making quite a buzz in the United States and in Japan and the release of this Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition demo for Nintendo 3DS will be exciting news for both Puzzle & Dragons and Super Mario Bros. fans the world over.

The promotional demo, now available for download at the eShop for Nintendo 3DS players, is a sneak peak of the full Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition game coming out late May. Techno Buffalo reveals that the package will actually contain two games that feature their own storylines, Puzzle & Dragons Z and Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition, both released separately in Japan by GungHo Online Entertainment.

The Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition demo is a drag-and-match puzzle gameplay that crosses Super Mario characters with RPG elements. This Super Mario edition will involve levelling and character progress albeit using a puzzle nature.

Destructoid has already published a short review about the demo and like tons of fans that got hooked to the Puzzle & Dragons mobile app, Chris Carter has put up two thumbs for the Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition game.

The free-to-play gameplay features two modes, Intro and Expert, and could be easily picked up in a matter of minutes. The aim of the game is to match three or more of the same Super Mario icon and amass combos for a better score. Expert level ups the ante as it introduces new party members from the Super Mario series who will have special skills for use during the game. Matching up different colors will trigger the powers of different Super Mario characters.

Carter notes in his review that it is a good game with a fairly good depth that Nintendo players and Super Mario fans should look forward to.

“I really like how smooth [Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition] is in general, as gameplay is relatively straight-forward and fast-paced—you need to make a move before your opponent does or risk being counter-attacked and losing your turn, just like an active-time-battle in a JRPG…The Mario animation style works perfectly within the confines of Puzzle & Dragons, and the 3D effect is excellent.”

Nintendo 3DS gamers who download the Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition demo will be able to try the game only for a limited number of uses, but if they enjoy playing the game, they won’t have to wait for too long. The full Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition game for Nintendo 3DS will be officially released May 8 in Europe, May 9 in Australia, and May 22 in the United States.
