Drake, Madonna’s Make-Out Partner, Climbs Back Up ‘Billboard 200’ Album Chart

Drake may have caused controversy with his poorly-received Coachella set and his tongue-wresting incident with Madonna, but he is getting the last laugh. According to Billboard, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late flies back up the album chart from No. 10 to No. 4. The fact that a CD version of the album was released on April 21 certainly helps the chart rise, but that hasn’t always been the case with many other artists.

It’s a good thing that Drake’s Coachella set didn’t hurt album sales. Consequence of Sound claims Drake was the worst Coachella headliner in history.

“Truncated versions of songs and an awkward cameo from Madonna led Philip Cosores to call Drake’s weekend one headlining performance ‘a missed opportunity to turn in something truly special,’ and Drake is inclined to agree. In a post-weekend one profile posted to Four Pins, Ernest Baker reveals how Drake felt less than stellar over the performance. ‘I took an L for the first time. I just have to reassess what went wrong with my judgment,’ he quotes Drake as saying in a text message.”

Speaking of Madonna, Drake is certainly not appreciated among many of Madonna’s fans, who believe Drake threw her under the bus just to show how “cool” he is. If you don’t remember, Madonna performed what even her fans said was an incredibly cringe-worthy set in the middle of Drake’s performance. She ended her performance kissing Drake. The kiss was obviously planned and Madonna even hinted at it in an interview with Us Weekly. Both Drake and Madonna also flirted with each other on Instagram for weeks leading up to the performance.

The backlash against Madonna was far more severe than it was with Drake. However, instead of criticizing Madonna for a sub-par performance and stunt (like many of her fans did), she was age-shamed, slut-shamed, body-shamed, and humiliated by the media and Twitter. Instead of putting the Madonna backlash to rest immediately, Drake waited a whole day, after the damage was already done. He said on Instagram that he was actually happy about the kiss.

“Don’t misinterpret my shock!! I got to make out with the queen Madonna and I feel 100 about that forever. Thank you @madonna.”

Madonna has yet to comment on the controversy after the kiss. However, since Madonna is not one to be quiet about things, we can expect her to come out and say something soon. Drake, however, doesn’t need to say anything else; the public has already declared him the hero and Madonna the “old slut” after the incident, which is similar to the public reaction after Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson’s breast at the Super Bowl in 2004. Some may say that Madonna is 100 percent correct when she claims that women’s rights have remained stagnant while rights for other minorities have improved significantly.
