Rumer Willis Used To Compare Herself To Mother Demi Moore

Rumer Willis hasn’t had it easy. Growing up the daughter of two bonafide superstars for parents like Bruce Willis and Demi Moore proved to be a challenge. Prior to her run on Dancing with the Stars, she’s been open about getting teased for her looks, and the growing pains of being a teenager on the spotlight.

The oldest Willis daughter recently opened up to Us magazine about constantly comparing herself to her famous mom Demi. Moore, who was famous for her looks early on in her career, tried to give her daughter sound advice.

“I didn’t know how to ask for help. My mom would sometimes see what was happening and her advice was, ‘Don’t let that infect you. People are going to have opinions. You don’t have to make them yours.'”

Despite that, being a teen in the age of social media was hard, and it didn’t stop Rumer from comparing herself to her mother. “I compared myself to her. I would go, ‘My mom wears smaller jeans than me! Oh, God. Maybe I’m not skinny enough.’ Every girl looks up to her mother, but my mom was larger-than-life and I felt I could never be like her. I just didn’t feel like we were even the same caliber.”

Being 15-years-old when social media was booming didn’t help. In fact, it only added to how she dissected herself based on other people’s opinions of her. It’s not surprising, given that people in general are the most influenced in their teen years.

“Every time I went out in public and was photographed, people had something to say about how I looked. The worse things I read were that I looked like a man, or simply that I was ugly. Any time I looked good, a story would say I had plastic surgery. Because God forbid I just looked good being me!”

Rumer, now 26, said that she persevered with the help of family, namely sisters Scout, 24, and Tallulah, 21. “I’m really thankful that I had my sisters to lean on. They are my best friends.”

Lately Rumer has been feeling the love.
