‘Mortal Kombat X’ Bigger, Badder, And Better: Chart-Topping And Fatality-Delivering Feats

Mortal Kombat X is achieving an all-new record after almost two decades of the brutal and action-packed franchise. Mortal Kombat X is going strong on its second week at the top of the U.K. sales charts, a feat for Mortal Kombat X’s creator NetherRealm Studios. Gaming Bolt reports that this is the biggest launch in the history of Mortal Kombat and in its three weeks, has become the fastest-selling title for the franchise.

Despite a 64 percent drop in sales after its first week in the U.K. charts, Mortal Kombat X was still able to deal a fatality blow on other titles that remain below it. Released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms on April 14, Mortal Kombat X ruled the U.K. charts with the equally revered Grand Theft Auto V in second and Battlefield Hardline in third. Minecraft has claimed two spots in the charts with Minecraft: PlayStation Edition coming in fourth and Minecraft: Xbox Edition on the sixth spot. EA Games’ FIFA 15 continue to stay strong on the charts on fifth place.

Twinfinite lists the complete top 20 titles as of April 27:

1.MORTAL KOMBAT X
2. GRAND THEFT AUTO V
3. BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE
4. MINECRAFT: PLAYSTATION EDITION
5. FIFA 15
6. MINECRAFT: XBOX EDITION
7. CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE
8. DYING LIGHT
9. BORDERLANDS: THE HANDSOME COLLECTION

With a long, colorful, and equally vicious history behind the Mortal Kombat franchise, it is not entirely a surprise that Mortal Kombat X is doing pretty well in terms of sales—also owing to the fact that Mortal Kombat has established a gore-loving fanbase over the years. Toms Guide released a report right before the release of Mortal Kombat X that could help enlighten a gamer undecided or oblivious to the Mortal Kombat world.

The franchise released the first Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011 and Mortal Kombat X is the successor to this overhaul. The tenth core installment in the Mortal Kombat series—hence the “X”—Mortal Kombat X is serving one of the most satisfying and cinematic story modes, making possible more vicious and graphic fatalities and bringing back some of the most iconic Mortal Kombat characters from previous titles. Mortal Kombat fans from the older consoles and titles will be excited to know that all-time favorites Sub-Zero, Sonya, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Mileena, and Scorpion will be returning to Mortal Kombat X. And it is not enough to emphasize that with the powerful PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, the most grotesque and violent carnage that Mortal Kombat is well known for has reached a new level of violence—something that fatality fanatics are sure to look forward to and enjoy.

Gamers from older generation consoles should look forward to Mortal Kombat X coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.
