‘The X-Files’ Is Coming Home And Chris Carter Is Happy About That

Die-hard fans of The X-Files, as well as some casual fans of the ’90s classic sci-fi series, know all too well that the original run of The X-Files was filmed in Vancouver. In a recent interview, Chris Carter revealed that availability of forests in the area made it the perfect place to film The X-Files and, as such, The X-Files reboot will also be filmed in Vancouver.

“When we were preparing to do the X-Files pilot, we were preparing to do it in Los Angeles, but we couldn’t find a good forest within the zone [the area you can work in without having to pay a premium]. So I said, let’s go to Vancouver, and it was kind of a no-brainer.”

Speaking of the reboot, Chris revealed that he would be faithful to the time lapse that has occurred since The X-Files has gone off the air and that the revival series would look at the major X-Files characters, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) primarily, in the context of what has happened to them in the intervening years since the final episode of The X-Files aired in 2002.

If you’re thinking that it sounds like Chris Carter already has a premise sketched out for the revival of The X-Files series, you would be right. However, if you’re also thinking that he’s eager to share details about the plot, you would be mistaken.

“That would be completely unfair to the fans who are hoping to be surprised,” Mr. Carter responded to requests for X-Files spoilers.

In another interview, Carter did reveal that the revival of the X-Files series will focus on those aspects that made The X-Files great: conspiracies, the relationship between Mulder and Scully, and stand-alone episodes that will tie the six-episode revival together. Mr. Carter also added that certain X-Files favorites, like The Lone Gunmen, may also be returning.

“As we say in The X-Files, even though you’re dead you’re never really dead.”

Chris Carter has made no secret that he enjoyed living in Vancouver through the run of The X-Files, and he assures fans that, despite rumors to the contrary, Mr. Duchovny shared his love for the city. Carter assures fans that Duchovny and Anderson love Vancouver and are equally excited about being back for the X-Files revival.

As far as the actual shooting of The X-Files, Chris reveals that the current season has limited the times certain scenes can be shot.

“Vancouver is actually the perfect place to make a show like the X-Files.It gives you what I call free atmosphere. The funny thing is, we’re coming back now, and we’ll be shooting all summer long. And being so far north, we’re not going to have as much darkness as we like, to shoot the moodier stuff we want to shoot.”

Closing the interview, Chris mentioned that he has missed the Vancouver environment, since his last days of shooting the original X-Files series. A man of the outdoors, Carter had joined the Alpine Club of Canada to participate in mountain climbing, which enabled him to explore the great outdoors.
